Indonesia and ASEAN must play active roles to reject US diplomatic maneuvers in isolating North Korea
Author : Hendrajit, Geopolitical analyst of the Global Future Institute (GFI)

On Tuesday, July 4, North Korea succeeded in launching inter-continental ballistic missiles (ICBM). Even its estimated power reportedly can reach Alaska, United States. Interestingly, the missile launch test was conducted ahead of the G-20 summit, which is one of the main agendas to discuss the way the international community stops North Korea's nuclear weapons development.

Apparently the agenda is in line with the US willing to exaggerate the capabilities and threats of North Korea's nuclear weapons. Following the North Korea ICBM missile tests, the United States immediately presented the UNSC draft resolution to the Chinese government, to impose international sanctions on North Korea.

In such a constellation, South Korea and Japan are certainly in line with the diplomatic maneuvers US, UK, and France as the backbones of NATO.

For the US government, regardless of North Korea's success in the intercontinental missile test (ICBM) it is a clear proof of North Korea's nuclear weapons capabilities and superiority, but a spokesman for the US defense ministry seems to have gained pretext for conducting diplomatic maneuvers in gaining international support to isolate North Korea.

A spokesman for the US Defense Ministry said he came to the conclusion that the missile launched by North Korea on Tuesday was cruising between continents. So even if in reality it has not been as devastating as described by the Pentagon spokesman, for the US government the success of North Korea's ICBM test is to justify the support of international communities in isolating and embargoing North Korea.

Japanese Militarism : Japan, Between Love And Resentment

A book entitled Japanese Militarism and Its War Crimes in Asia Pacific Region (Hendrajit, ed) was recently sent to me, by the publisher, The Global Future Institute. No doubt, this book made me re-think and recollect my trip to Japan in 1996. At that time, I was warmly received by Japanese families who became my host, invited to travel to various places, and bought souvenirs. The psycological effect of my short visit is that it is hard to imagine that the Japanese people were cruel ones, perpetrators of the massacre of our ancestors, raping Indonesian girls, making them as prostitutes and enslaving our grandfathers to work on various projects.
